Heel Pain
There are a number of causes of heel pain, but there is a common condition called Plantar Fasciitis. The cause of plantar fasciitis is not totally understood, but there are common factors such as:
unaccustomed exercise such as standing on steps
- Painting
- Hanging curtains
- Increase in weight
- Middle age
There are many different treatments:
- The roller exercise, a cold tin or jar is placed on the floor and the arch of the foot rolled back and forward
- Stretching the muscles and tendons at the back of the leg by standing on the bottom step of the stairs rising on to the forefoot then lowering the down as far as possible or while leaning against the wall put one leg out behind as far as possible to stretch the muscles at the back of the lower leg
- While sat down stretch the leg out in front, put a towel around the forefoot then pull for 30 seconds release and repeat
- Strapping up the sole of the foot supporting the arch using adhesive surgical tape
- Putting orthotics in the shoes (arch supports)
- Laser treatment can be effective together with a number of other treatments
