Nail and Skin Conditions

The team at AH Parfitt Chiropodry are able to treat a wide range of Nail and Skin conditions including:

Corns & Calluses

Corns and calluses are a common condition that involves a thickening of the skin in areas of friction. While calluses can be uncomfortable and unsightly, corns tend to be more painful and are often located on or between toes and in areas of high pressure.

Cracked Heels

Cracks in the heels can range from mild to disabling, depending on their depth and associated infection.

Fungal Nail Infections

Fungal nail infections are a common ailment that can be easily spread from person to person and are often contracted by walking barefoot in public swimming pools, changing rooms and showers, as these are perfect environments for the fungus to thrive.

Fungal infections in the nails can take on a number of appearances and should be assessed by a qualified Chiropodist / Podiatrist.

Ingrowing Toenails

A small nail spike or tear on the side of the nail pierces the skin leading to pain and infection. This normally occurs along the sides of the nails from improper nail cutting techniques or trauma.

Thickened Toe Nail

Can often occur as a result of injury to the matrix such as dropping a brick on a toe, long term neglect (especially elongated nails), or a number of repetitive  knocks such as those that occur with continuous use of poor fitting shoe wear.

It may also become discolored with a brown tinge and may grow more quickly on one side than the other.

Warts

Are caused by a virus, which can affect any part of the skin, including the hands and feet. They can be unsightly and also make it uncomfortable to walk.

Diabetic Foot
Screening

People with diabetes may be at risk of developing foot problems. Therefore it is beneficial to be screened, at least annually, to detect the presence of neuropathy, ischaemia and/or foot deformities.

Is a Chiropodist &
Podiatrist the same?

There is no difference between chiropody and podiatry. Chiropody is the old term for treatment by a foot health professional but the term podiatry is becoming increasingly used as it is a common term, used all over the world, for treatment by a foot health professional.
